It’s been a week since EDC 2017 ended and I’m still having
withdrawals! It was me and my husband’s first time going to this magical event
and I just have to say that it definitely WON’T be the last. People always
said, “It’s hard to describe, you just have to go and experience it yourself,”
and they were absolutely right. I had the most amazing time of my life. I’d
even go as far as saying that it was life
changing.
Let me tell you why.
Before going to EDC, EDM was just a “like” on my list of
music. Meaning, I liked listening to it, I have a few favorites, but I wasn’t
obsessed with it. When I would turn on my play list, it wasn’t always my ‘go to’.
While I enjoy all types of genres, I was more of a hip-hop or slow jams fan. C’mon,
I grew up in the 90’s, where all they played on the radio was slow jams.
My husband; however, is a different story. While he, too,
enjoys his share of hip hop and slow jams, EDM is his favorite type – it’s
[always] his ‘go to’ music. It’s been that way when I met him 16 years ago, and
I’m sure it’ll still be that way for the next 16 years.
So, being the awesome wife that I am, I decided to splurge
for his birthday and buy tickets to this year’s event. I remember when I surprised
him with it back in December. We were actually on our way to Vegas to celebrate
his birthday. We stopped in Barstow and we were waiting in the drive-thru line
when I showed him the emailed receipt. He was so stoked and his expression was
priceless!
There was so much anticipation leading up to the event. He
was so excited.
I, on the other hand, didn’t really know what to expect. I
was excited, and nervous at the same time. So many thoughts ran through my
head. Would I enjoy it? Would I hate it? And most
importantly, what do I wear???
As the date got closer, though, I became more excited. The
hype was just too good not to be!
Since there is so much detail that I want to go over with
you about what happened each day, I decided to write a new post, so make sure
to read it when it becomes available in the next few days.
Meanwhile…
I will tell you that after experiencing it for myself, I
have a completely new appreciation and understanding for not only the music,
but the people. The people made the experience worthwhile. The music was a
bonus. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly and welcoming. You look
around, and there was no judgment, no arguing, no rudeness, and no hate. The
world for those three days was…peaceful.
Your mind opens up to a whole different outlook. Everything
becomes so clear. It’s like a piece of me was missing and I didn’t know it until
now. Now...I feel complete, which is an overwhelming but exhilarating feeling. I surprised myself; who knew that this experience would have a
substantial effect on me? My husband wasn’t surprised, though, because I
already possess a freebird spirit. He calls me a wanderluster. Being there
proved it and this experience enhanced it. The music. The people. The
environment. Everything fit my vibe like a glove.
That moment I entered the speedway and heard the beat drop
for the first time – I knew I was home.
